Capital investment
We have the largest water and wastewater capital investment programme in the UK, delivering benefits to our customers and to the environment right across the North West of England. We want to make sure that the assets we build now have a low environmental and social impact during their operating life so that we minimise energy use, emissions and waste disposal. We also want to ensure that whatever we build in future is done in a way that protects the environment.
This year we have increased the sustainability requirements around our capital investment programme, focusing on the way we deliver the improvements required across our water and wastewater network to bring improved services to our customers. In support of this, we monitor the performance of our construction partners to make sure that those standards are being met.
We have also identified additional ways we can integrate our sustainability standards into our business over the next few years, such as improving awareness and training across our business and among our partners, updating standards and improving performance reporting.
