Employee engagement

We have changed the way we gather feedback from our annual employee opinion survey. Previously we measured employee satisfaction but from now on we are evaluating employee engagement. Engagement assesses what our employees think and feel and how that motivates them to act. The survey now concentrates on finding out how well employees understand the direction of the company and where they fit in, whether they feel pride and attachment to our business and if they feel motivated to go the extra mile.

Many studies have shown that employee engagement has a direct impact on customer satisfaction and productivity both of which lead to increased profitability. The 87 per cent response rate to this year’s employee opinion survey was the highest ever with 63 per cent of our employees saying they feel “engaged”. The true value of the survey is the insight it provides our managers in terms of  the views of their employees and for this insight to prompt changes in leadership behaviour.

A central team has been established to help promote greater employee engagement within the business and to encourage our employees to make changes in their own work areas as a way of encouraging greater engagement.
