For our gas business getting it wrong can have disastrous consequences including loss of supply to houses and in the worst cases, gas explosions and loss of life. It is therefore vital that we comply with the Gas Requirements Manual to ensure the gas distribution network owned by our client, Northern Gas Networks, is maintained properly.
Our gas business has developed an in-depth site inspection process to monitor compliance with the manual and identify where improvements need to be made. Two highly experienced auditors ensure that all teams are inspected. Teams which score poorly receive additional training to ensure they are brought up to standard.
Teams have also been provided with a ‘safety log’ book to provide a written record of work sites and manners. All visitors to the street works site are expected to leave a comment. These comments, along with the results of the formal site inspections, will be used by managers and senior managers for their face-to-face meetings so that areas of weakness can be highlighted and resolved.
