For the first time we are highlighting safety health and environmental (SHE) issues in our funding bid to our regulator, OFWAT, which is due in 2009.
Our water and wastewater departments submit bids every five years detailing the funding they need to keep all of our treatment works and pipes operating safely, efficiently and effectively.
The SHE issues which will be included in our next submission are chlorine and sulphur dioxide storage, Radon, Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres regulations, Asbestos, Confined Spaces, Legionella, Working at Height, Hydrogen Sulphide, High and Low Voltage switchgear replacement and Fire protection measures.
We have reviewed the legislative changes in all the above areas to help us with our initial surveys of what improvements are needed and how much they will cost.
